Liverpool and Manchester City played out a thrilling encounter at Wembley this afternoon as the Reds raced into a three goal lead before half-time.
A spirited second half display from City made the clash though, as goals from Jack Grealish and then Bernardo Silva ensured it was a more than nervy finish for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
However, while City’s fightback was brilliant, the first 45 minutes from Liverpool was breathtaking football and on another day they might have taken the game even further away from City. Of course, the standout highlight for both teams in that opening half was Zack Steffen’s miserable mistake which allowed Sadio Mane to score Liverpool’s second.

It was akin to what Ederson got away with in the league game. But this time, unlike Ederson, there was no escape for Steffen as Mane bundled into the net with a sliding tackle.
And over on the touchline, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and assistant, Pep Lijnders, were spotted absolutely loving it in the technical area. Lijnders was seen rushing towards Klopp and both embraced in a big celebration. It indicated it was something the pair had spoken about with their Liverpool players before hand, too.
TBR’s View: Klopp Will Have Told Mane All About Steffen
There is no doubt here that the Liverpool manager has spoken to his team about such moments. As soon as the ball went back to Steffen, Mane was on the move and rushing at the American.
Clearly, Klopp and Lijnders were delighted with getting their reward from their press and Mane was the man to get the goal.
Liverpool were the better team on the day overall and despite fightback from City, it was a deserved win for the Reds.
