Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has spoken of his amazement at watching current Reds number one Alisson go through the motions in training.
The Brazilian number one has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s best stoppers since arriving at Anfield for £66.8 million last summer (BBC Sport).
His arrival has helped Liverpool to improve drastically in defence – Jurgen Klopp’s side have conceded just 18 goals so far in the league after 31 games.
Alisson has the most clean sheets to his name with 17, which is three more than his Manchester City and Brazil rival Ederson.
Clearly the former AS Roma man has been a brilliant signing, and Kirkland – who made 45 appearances for the Reds across a five-year stint – has now revealed that the 26-year-old is just as impressive behind closed doors.
Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT on Tuesday, he said: “I’ve been lucky enough to be down at the training ground a couple of times and he’s the only goalkeeper I’ve watched and gone, ‘Wow’.
“I walked away and I was purring when I got home. I was smiling because I’d just seen an incredible session from him.
“John Achterberg, the goalkeeper coach there, and Alisson were training with Simon Mignolet. Those two were great but Alisson was just incredible.”
Kirkland’s comments are sure to go down very well with the Liverpool faithful, who will want their stars to be showing top form as the business end of the season approaches.
Should Liverpool go on to win the Premier League title, then it will be difficult to look past Alisson for a place in the end of season Team of the Year.
