Kirk Broadfoot has a stark warning for Celtic newbie

Former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has a warning for his former Kilmarnock team-mate and Celtic newbie Greg Taylor.

Celtic snapped up the Scotland international from Killie as a replacement for Kieran Tierney, who made the move to Arsenal this summer.

Taylor, therefore, arrives with plenty of expectation and his former team-mate Broadfoot has informed him that the pressure of playing in Glasgow can be hard to handle.

The 35-year-old, who spent five years at Ibrox, told the Sunday Post (paraphrased):

“Moving from Kilmarnock to Celtic, the mental side and the pressure that comes with it will be on a different level for Greg. He’ll be under a lot of scrutiny. If he can handle that, he’ll be fine…

“Everywhere you go on the street, people are either abusing you, or not giving you a minute’s peace.

“It was actually a relief to move to England after five years at Rangers…Hopefully, Greg won’t have to go through anything like that, and can go on to be a big success at Celtic.”

TBR’s View

There is no doubt that Taylor will be under more pressure now he is at Celtic as opposed to his time at Rugby Park.

The expectation at Celtic is to win the league every season and defeats are so rare, they are seldom well received.

Luckily, the 21-year-old appears to have the character needed for this fight.

He has already overcome adversity by recovering from being released by Rangers as a 17-year-old. Now he will be hoping to help guide Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title at the detriment of their Old Firm rivals.

Hopefully, Broadfoot’s words will not prove predictive for Taylor’s experience in Glasgow.
