On-loan Kilmarnock goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann has told Austrian outlet Laola1 that Rangers have been in contact with his agent over a move to Ibrox this summer.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Rugby Park from English Premier League side Watford. He was made to be patient for his chance in the first team at the start of the season, but is now taking his chance with aplomb.
Stevie Clarke chose Jamie MacDonald as his number one for the first 11 Scottish Premiership fixtures. But Bachmann has stood tall between the sticks for the next 19 league games.
Bachmann has impressed and kept his place ahead of MacDonald. The Austrian has made 22 appearances in all competitions for Killie, conceding just 20 goals and keeping 10 clean sheets.
He told media that Rangers had been in contact with his agent, while German sides Stuttgart and Hannover 96 are also keen. He is likely to leave Watford this summer, with only a year left on his £3,000-a-week contract (Spotrac).
Asked about contact from Rangers: “There are contacts with my English agent, but now I am concentrating exclusively on Kilmarnock. From June I am again a player of Watford and I want to prevail in the Premier League.”
Do Rangers need a new goalkeeper? Allan McGregor remains the undisputed number one and although he is now 38, he remains Scotland’s best goalkeeper – though he has retired from international football.
Wes Foderingham remains the club’s understudy. A more than adequate number two, Foderingham was the club’s first-choice stopper for the first two seasons in the Scottish Premiership.
The club also have January signing Andy Firth and plenty of young stoppers in the likes of Aidan McAdams and Kieran Wright. Jak Alnwick and Robby McCrorie are out on loan. No, Rangers do not need a new goalkeeper.
