Report: Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla to join Elche this summer
Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is set to leave Elland Road this summer, with a deal with Spanish side Elche lined up.
The Spaniard was a key part of the 19/20 promotion winning side that Marcelo Bielsa guided to the Premier League. However, he has since lost his place to Illan Meslier, who has cemented himself as number one.
The Mirror now claims that Casilla on his way out of the club. A move to Elche has been lined up, and Leeds will not stand in his way of a move back home.
It’s claimed a loan move will be the initial deal. Elche will then have the option of turning the deal into a permanent one at the end of the season.
Casilla has a high profile in the game having played for Real Madrid. But at 34, he isn’t keen on sitting on the bench behind Meslier again.
It could leave Marcelo Bielsa short in the goalkeeping department for the coming season.
Writing on the wall
It’s been heading this way for Casilla for some time now. When he has played, he’s made big errors, so it’s not surprising to see the club letting him go.
In fairness, at 34, he probably does just want to play. And if he can do that in his homeland, then who can blame him for wanting out.
Leeds will now have to dip into the market you’d think. Meslier is st ill so young, that getting someone in with experience will help him.
The report does, however, state that Victor Orta has already found a replacement for the Spaniard.
