Kiko Casilla addition means Leeds didn’t fail in January

Leeds United’s failure to sign Swansea City’s Daniel James has been a huge talking point, with the clubs failing to sort the deal on Deadline Day of the January transfer window.

Swansea confirmed (official website) that the 21-year-old winger did travel to Elland Road ahead of a loan with a view to a permanent switch, but in the end the clubs couldn’t agree terms.

James certainly would have been a real boost to the Whites, as they look to push for promotion and they currently sit top of the Championship.

But Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta did still deliver a top-class goalkeeper in January, something which at the end of the season could turn out to be the difference.

Casilla is a reminder that Leeds have shown intent in January and added a shot-stopper with serious pedigree from his time with Madrid.

The 32-year-old has Champions League experience and a senior international cap for Spain, while he’s arrived to try help improve a potential weak area in the team.

Leeds have kept hold of all elite first teamers over January too and under Bielsa still look in a good place to continue the promotion bid.
