Kieran Trippier’s injury uncertainty spells worrying news for Tottenham

During Tottenham Hotspur’s narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, Kieran Trippier limped off through injury just under a half hour into the match.

The right back’s injury uncertainty spells worrying news for Spurs, as the club seem to be hit with yet another defensive casualty.

Reports from Sky Sports after the match claimed the defender is a doubt for England’s international fixtures next week, an ominous sign for his fitness once Tottenham are back in action against Chelsea in two weeks.

After the Trippier exited the match, Serge Aurier took his place and performed decently enough at the back. Yet with Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose already missing through injury in the Tottenham defence, another absence will come as a bitter blow for Mauricio Pochettino.

Furthermore, Aurier is far from the most reliable defensive option, with a propensity for the audacious and unexpected when operating in the back four.

Nevertheless, Trippier has been far from consistently excellent during the start to the 2018/19 campaign, but he is still the first-choice option over the Ivorian.

With Trippier facing an uncertain spell on the sidelines, Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping the right back returns as quickly as possible in order to return consistency to the club’s defence.
