Atletico Madrid suffered a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday at the Wanda Metropolitano – and Kieran Trippier has questioned the ref on Instagram.
A contentious game that boiled over towards the end, referee Daniel Siebert was at the centre of everything throughout – giving a brave display.
Liverpool won 3-2, thanks to Mo Salah netting a brace and Naby Keita lashing in a volley. Antoine Griezmann got two, but was also sent off.
The first decision that the referee had to make was Griezmann’s red. A high foot was planted into the head of Roberto Firmino, though with little malice.
However, there was contact and VAR found no reason to overturn the decision. One of those that looks worse with every replay.
Then, he gave a penalty to Liverpool after a foul by Mario Hermoso. A stone-wall penalty, with many questioning the defender’s decision making.
He did give a penalty to Atleti, only for VAR to inform him to take a look at the monitor. Showing bravery, he reversed his decision in front of Simeone.

A controversial match with tempers high. But Siebert seemingly got his decisions right, but Trippier was seemingly not in agreement.
The England defender played 90 minutes against Jurgen Klopp’s side, as Liverpool eventually secured a third consecutive win in the group stage.
Taking to Instagram, ex-Tottenham defender Trippier posted “some decisions don’t go your way”, following the 3-2 loss to Liverpool.
