Mikael Lustig is leaving Celtic after seven-and-a-half years at the club. The Swedish defender is out of contract this summer and stated on his Instagram page that he was ready for a ‘new chapter’ in his career.
The defender has every right to go down as a Celtic hero after playing nearly 300 games for the club and winning 16 domestic trophies at Parkhead.
But over the past 18 months, his form has dipped and many feel this is the right time for Lustig to say his Celtic goodbye.
One man who is clearly gutted to see him leave is Kieran Tierney.
The Celtic left-back was just 15-years-old when Lustig joined the club from Rosenborg in January 2012. The 22-year-old took to Twitter to send a goodbye message to Lustig which clearly had some emotion behind it.
Thank you for everything! You legend ❤️ pic.twitter.com/jrvxdVYKUY

Tierney has spent his entire career as Celtic’s leading left-back with the Swedish international on the other side of the defence.
The more experienced Swede has therefore played a big role in helping shape Tierney into the professional he has become today.
Next season, Celtic will need a new right-back and Tierney will hope to have the same balance with the new recruit as he always did with the club’s super Swede.
