Filip Benkovic completed a loan move to Championship side Bristol City on deadline day as The Robins won a reportedly hotly-contested race to land the central defender from Leicester City – and Kieran Tierney has responded to his Instagram post.
The Northern Echo claimed before the 22-year-old moved to Ashton Gate that Middlesbrough, Derby County and indeed Scottish champions Celtic were interested in signing the one-time Croatia international on loan until the summer.
Benkovic played alongside Tierney at Celtic during the 2018-19 campaign, where the Croatian colossus clocked up 27 appearances in all competitions – and winning the treble with Celtic. A return to Celtic was being reported.
Celtic ended the window with just Ismaila Soro and Patryk Klimala as signings, though they were linked with plenty of players on deadline day, including Newcastle’s Christian Atsu. Another, in Benkovic, posted on Instagram after moving to Ashton Gate.
Since joining Leicester from Dinamo Zagreb for £13million (Sun) in the summer of 2018, Benkovic has managed just two senior appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ side. He returns to the King Power in the summer, where he may decide to leave.
Former Celtic teammate Tierney, who joined Arsenal from Celtic at the start of this season, reacted to Benkovic’s decision to ignore a potential return to Parkhead and join Bristol City, by commenting on the central defender’s post.
