Kieran Tierney performs incredible turnaround just one month after potential exit reports
Arsenal’s recent upturn in form has seen them go unbeaten in their last five matches and, were it not for Eddie Nketiah’s red card against Leicester City this week, then the Gunners might have had five wins on the bounce.
One of the key players for Arsenal during this run of improved form has been Scottish defender Kieran Tierney.
The left-back has been in fine form, allowing Bukayo Saka to be used in his favoured more attacking position and the turnaround has been noticed by several pundits and former players.
Ashley Cole, a former Arsenal and England defender, told Sky Sports (as relayed by The Independent), heaped praise on Tierney this week and rightly so.
“He is the star of this Arsenal defence.
“He has top qualities, he can play into the striker, join attacks well, he has the quality of pass and he can defend one versus one.
“He doesn’t like to get beat, he isn’t happy when crosses go in so I think for Arsenal he is a great player. He can improve but so far he has been brilliant.”
So it is hard to believe that Arsenal were reportedly considering giving up on the player.
It was reported at the start of June on the Transfer Window Podcast that Arsenal could consider cutting their losses on the £25 million (BBC) with Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers said to be keen on a reunion with his former Celtic player should Ben Chilwell leave the King Power.
It seemed unlikely but plausible. Tierney’s massive injury problems since arriving at Arsenal left many doubting whether he was worth keeping around.
However, Tierney is now back to full fitness and is showcasing his immense ability since the Premier League has returned.
Now it is clear that Arsenal have absolutely no intention of letting Tierney go in what has been a sensational one-month turnaround.
