Arsenal defender, Kieran Tierney, has spoken of his admiration for Gabriel Martinelli and admitted he was ‘blown away’ by the youngster when he first signed.
Martinelli has been a revelation for the Gunners this season. The 18-year-old has burst onto the scene this term and flourished under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.
The youngster has bagged three goals in both the Premier League and Europa League this term.
Martinelli is widely regarded as one of the top talents in world football. And those thoughts were echoed by his current teammate, Kieran Tierney.
Speaking to the official Arsenal website for a Q&A last night, Tierney admitted to being hugely impressed by Martinelli.
“When I first did a full training session with the team I was put up against him,” Tierney said.
“The intensity of his play was honestly mind-blowing and I thought to myself: ‘this is the standard I need to be at to play for Arsenal’.”
Tierney was speaking on a whole manner of subjects during the interview. His answer about Martinelli came when asked specifically about who had blown him away during training.

There wasn’t really a need for people to confirm it but this does add weight to the argument that Martinelli is going to be one of the best players around if he maintains his rise.
Martinelli has been absolutely superb this season. For a teenager to be playing at such a high standard already is, frankly, remarkable.
Tierney has clearly been impressed by the youngster. Indeed, if Martinelli can continue his development with Arsenal, then the Gunners will have a world-class player on their hands.
