Ki-Jana Hoever debut would demonstrate huge Liverpool coup over Manchester United and rivals

Liverpool face Wolves in the FA Cup third round this evening and undoubtedly Jurgen Klopp will be ready to ring some changes to his first-team. It will no doubt be a risky ploy against a talented Premier League rival, but Jurgen Klopp has a lot of faith in his squad.

In fact, some even suggest there could be a debut for a player who only turns 17 later this month.

The player in question is Dutch sensation Ki-Jana Hoever. The 16-year-old has been in stunning form for the club’s youth teams since joining from Ajax. With Nathaniel Clyne loaned out and Trent Alexander-Arnold in need of a rest, it could be Hoever is given a chance, as hinted by Klopp recently.

If Hoever did play for the first-team this week and continue his development in a similar fashion to that of Alexander-Arnold, it would prove a huge coup for Liverpool over their Premier League rivals.

When Liverpool signed Hoever, it was from under intense competition. As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Chelsea, Manchester City and, most pertinently, rivals Manchester United all wanted him.

“It is just a joy to watch him. He is an incredible, confident young fella and is really a good player on top of that. It’s nice we can see him day in, day out. It’s really cool…

“It’s a nice prospect for the next months and years. Wolves? I don’t know, we will see.”

In the past, Liverpool have struggled to lure youngsters to Anfield over those three powerhouses but it shows that Klopp is changing the entire recent reputation of the club.

Hoever, who joined for a nominal compensation fee described as ‘small’ by MSN Sport, making his debut will show to all Liverpool’s rivals just what a coup he was.
