A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to praise Aiden O’Brien after he delivered a superb performance for the Black Cats in their League One victory today.

The 27-year-old, back in the XI after recovering from an injury, was the matchwinner for Lee Johnson’s side as they ran out 1-0 winners away at Bristol Rovers.

Sunderland came close to opening the scoring through Josh Scowen and Charlie Wyke, while a rare Dion Sanderson error led to Jonah Ayunga having a chance but firing over.

The breakthrough came just before half time when Aiden McGeady’s corner was sidefooted home by O’Brien.

As well as scoring the winner, O’Brien was a constant threat to the home defence, won plenty of aerial battles and provided some neat layoffs.

And plenty of Sunderland supporters were pleased with his efforts, praising him on social media:

The result means Sunderland are now unbeaten in their last 11 games in all competitions, having lost just once in 18.

The Black Cats are two points off second-placed Peterborough United  and three points off Hull City in first, with two games in hand on the Tigers.
