Son Heung-min netted a stunning brace for Tottenham Hotspur as the north Londoners rid themselves of their recent bad form to demolish Red Star Belgrade 5-0 – and Kevin Wimmer has made a prediction about the South Korea captain.

Son, 27, has continued his excellent form this season despite Spurs struggling. He has now netted five goals in 11 outings after his brace against Red Star, following two against Crystal Palace and one in the 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star now has 72 goals in 199 outings for Spurs, 10 of which have come during 2019. He has been named on the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or, alongside Tottenham skipper Hugo Lloris.

Son posted on Instagram after the match, after of which Mauricio Pochettino has given his side the day off following the five-goal haul. He captioned the post with: “That’s what we needed”.

Though Son has been excellent throughout 2019, it is unlikely the attacker will win the Ballon d’Or, with the award ceremony taking place in Paris on December 2. Virgil van Dijk, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are favourites to win.

But former Spurs star Kevin Wimmer – who is renowned for his friendship with Son – made an interesting prediction on Son’s Instagram, replying to the post by claiming that Son could be about to win the Ballon d’Or.
