Steven Gerrard has swapped Rangers for Aston Villa and Kevin Thomson has responded on Instagram – sending a 10-word message to Gerrard.
After more than three years, and 193 games as Rangers manager – Gerrard has finally given into temptation. He has moved down south, joining Villa.
Reuniting with Villa CEO Christian Purslow, he met the ex-Liverpool board member in London on Wednesday. He two thrashed out a deal until 2025.
It sees Gerrard leave a first-placed Rangers, on course to win a second league title, to join Villa – who sit perilously above the relegation zone.
His first game in charge will be against Brighton at Villa Park next weekend, but in the mean time – he will be working in training during the break.
Posting on Instagram, Gerrard sent a touching message to Rangers fans – underlying how much he fell in love with the Glasgow outfit.
Thomson sends touching message to Gerrard after Rangers exit
Thomson had been working as a youth coach at Rangers under Gerrard – until the summer. He remains a pundit and co-commentator on Rangers TV.
However, he left Gerrard and Rangers in the summer to join fourth-tier side Kelty Hearts as manager – replacing Barry Ferguson, who is at Alloa.
But it is clear that Gerrard passed on his advice and help to Thomson, who is now in his first senior management role since retiring.
Thomson responded to his Rangers exit by posting a 10-word message to Gerrard on his Instagram story, on Thursday.
