Kevin Phillips was left blown away by the quality of Jack Grealish after his midweek performance helped Aston Villa progress from the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Villa substitute Trezeguet scored a 93rd minute goal to clinch a win over Leicester City, as they won 2-1 at home on Tuesday night and reached the final courtesy of a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.

Dean Smith’s team had to withstand plenty of pressure from Leicester over the two legs, but in the end were more clinical in front of goal.

Grealish was once again so influential for his team on the pitch and he assisted Matt Targett for his opening strike.

Phillips, who had a brief spell at Villa during his playing career, picked out Villa captain Grealish for immense credit after his cup heroics.

The creative playmaker was at the source of most of his team’s attacks and continued his remarkable individual campaign.

“You can’t coach what he has got. He’s the sort of player technically he’s just a gifted footballer. Jack is just a natural footballer but he’s intelligent and he learns the game very quick,” Phillips said, as quoted by Sky Sports’ Premier League Twitter account.

TBR’s View:

Villa looked threatening whenever they got the ball out to 24-year-old Grealish on the left flank and he’s such a driving force for them.

The attacking midfielder has been effective in a new role this campaign operating from a wide position, but he’s got the freedom to drift around the park and influence play.

He’s now been directly involved in 16 goals in 26 games across all competitions this season and the pressure on England boss Gareth Southgate to hand him a senior call-up continues to mount.
