Kevin Mirallas reportedly close to leaving Everton to re-join first club Standard Liege
Everton outcast Kevin Mirallas is close to returning to his native Belgium and re-joining Standard Liege, according to Voetbal 24.
They report that there was a four-way battle for the winger’s signature this summer, but Mirallas has opted for Standard over Antwerp, Anderlecht and Club Brugge.
Spotrac claim that Mirallas is on £70,000 every week at Goodison Park, but it would be a major surprise if he isn’t taking a hit on those wages to return to the club where he came through as a young player.
The report says that if the final stages of negotiations go as planned then the deal could be done very soon, ending a stagnant Everton career for Mirallas.
Marco Silva’s new-look Everton puts the emphasis on young, rapid widemen who work hard for the team and Mirallas was once lightening quick but his best days are behind him.
It’s best for all parties that he moves on and the player can perhaps get some regular games back in his home country where the standard is lower than in the Premier League.
As Everton file back for pre-season training this week, it’s good for the club to have the Mirallas situation sorted relatively early on in the window, as well as getting his hefty wages off the bill.
