German magazine Kicker have reported that Young Boys defender Kevin Mbabu is reportedly available for just £4.8million and is attracting interest from the Bundesliga. But Newcastle United must intervene.
Both Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg are said to be keen on the 23-year-old. He has impressed for Young Boys in the Champions League this season, even facing Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus.
Since leaving Newcastle on a free after failing to break into the first team on a regular basis, Mbabu has clocked 93 appearances for Young Boys in just two seasons. He has scored five goals and created 20 more.
The report claims any interested parties can have Mbabu for less than £5million. A right-back, the defender is more than willing to get forward but remains defensively solid. He can play anywhere in defence, too.
Rafa Benitez will know Mbabu well, having made the decision not to offer the defender a new contract. The three-time Switzerland international has proven Newcastle they were wrong to let him go.
Now available at a bargain figure, Newcastle can correct their mistake and bring a Champions League-quality right-back to Tyneside. For just £4.8million, Mbabu is an enormous bargain.
Whether Mbabu would want to rejoin the side that spat him out two years ago is another question. Especially with both Wolfsburg and Frankfurt interested. But with a contract at Young Boys until 2020, he is likely to leave.
