Kevin Kilbane praises ‘devastating’ Jack Grealish

Aston Villa finally got the result their recent displays have deserved at the weekend, as they thrashed Norwich City 5-1 at Carrow Road.

One player who thrived for Aston Villa in that game was Jack Grealish. The playmaker was allowed to play in a more advanced role and Norwich simply could not handle his guile and craft in attack.

Grealish scored his first Premier League goal of the season, taking his tally in all competitions this term to three goals and three assists in 10 games.

The 24-year-old’s performance certainly caught the eye of the BBC pundits.

One of those was Kevin Kilbane, a man who has previously been critical of Grealish. In 2015, after Grealish turned his back on playing international football for the Republic of Ireland, former Ireland international Kilbane told the BBC he respected Grealish’s decision but he was ‘disappointed’ with the choice.

At the weekend, he spoke warmly of Grealish’s performance whilst on BBC’s Football Focus and suggested he had the ability to go on to another level.

“I think this season he’s been playing a bit too deep and he’s not had a huge influence in the final third. But he can do that. He’s devastating.

“If he can bring more goals to his game, he’s got the all-round game to seriously go on to the next level.”

Aston Villa fans will not be surprised by Grealish’s display and it is great to see him playing in a more advanced role yet again.

Grealish was a massive influence in Aston Villa’s promotion campaign last season and is fully deserving of his current praise.

Hopefully, he can continue to thrive at Villa Park this term. If he does, then that elusive England call-up might finally be around the corner.
