Kevin De Bruyne shares what he told Riyad Mahrez seconds before his winning free-kick goal v PSG

Kevin De Bruyne has shared what he told Riyad Mahrez just seconds before his winning Manchester City goal on Wednesday night against Paris Saint-Germain.

Man City came from behind to beat French giants PSG 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

Marquinhos put PSG ahead in the 15th minute with a powerful header from a corner, with the hosts looking a real danger in the first half.

However, visitors Man City responded well in the second period, as they dominated the match like they do most games under manager Pep Guardiola.

De Bruyne equalised in the 64th minute after his dangerous cross into the box ended up in the back of the net with nobody managing to get a glancing touch.

Teammate Mahrez added a second away goal soon after with a left-footed free-kick, which ended up finding its way through a gap in the PSG wall.

De Bruyne has detailed the conversation he had with Mahrez while standing over the free kick:

“He asked me if he could take it. I said: ‘If you believe in yourself take it!’ He scored the goal so who am I to say something about that,” De Bruyne told BT Sport Football.

TBR’s View:

It’s hard to pick out individuals from a Man City squad that is stacked with world-class talent, but attacking midfielder De Bruyne is often the one mentioned as the best in the Premier League, understandably so.

Mahrez though is a right-winger that has really looked at his best in the past few weeks, and has a knack of delivering on the big occasion.

It’s a strong advantage to Premier League leaders Man City going into next week’s second leg at the Etihad Stadium, and it’s up to PSG to come out to try score at least two goals.
