Kevin De Bruyne raves about Aston Villa and England star Jack Grealish
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has lavished praise on Aston Villa star Jack Grealish telling Sports Illustrated that he deserves a shot to establish himself for England.
The Belgium captain was part of the team that lost 2-1 to the Three Lions at Wembley yesterday but Grealish played no part, sitting on the bench as an unused substitute.
Only seven days previous, the 25-year-old had put Premier League champions, Liverpool, to the sword with two goals and three assists during a 7-2 win.
De Bruyne is one of the Premier League’s most creative players, scoring 16 goals and claiming 23 assists in all competitions.
He thinks Grealish is thoroughly deserving of a chance on the international stage.
The 29-year-old told Sports Illustrated: “I rate him very highly. He’s somebody I mentioned, talking to the teammates at Manchester City in a random conversation.
“In England, they talked about creative problems in midfield, but he brings that. He deserves a shot.”
The Aston Villa captain scored 10 goals and claimed eight assists last season as the Villans retained their Premier League status.
During 2020/21, Dean Smith’s men have won their opening three fixtures and are one of two teams with a perfect start to the campaign.
Grealish is getting something of a raw deal from Gareth Southgate who seems somewhat unwilling to give him a regular run of games.
The England boss has claimed that he has proved himself against a certain level of opposition but the next challenge is to do it against a higher quality of opponent.
That doesn’t really make sense though considering Grealish is doing it week in and week out on the biggest stage in the Premier League.
All the Villa skipper can do is continue doing good things with Villa and hopefully, Southgate will one day give him what De Bruyne feels he deserves.
