Kevin De Bruyne now makes claim about Tottenham after Manchester City’s win last night

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has now commented on Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of winning the Premier League title.

Whilst Ange Postecoglou’s side have made brilliant progress this season, it almost felt as if a difficult night against Chelsea in November could have curtailed their title challenge before it really got going.

In the same game, Spurs lost Micky van de Ven and James Maddison to long-term injuries, and Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero to suspension.

It was an incredible blow.

Postecoglou’s side did react very well, the likes of Ben Davies proved their worth to Spurs’ future.

But perhaps the title now isn’t at the forefront of Tottenham players’ minds, rather a place back in the Champions League.

That being said, Kevin De Bruyne certainly wasn’t going to rule Tottenham out of the title race just yet.

The City midfielder spoke to Standard Sport after beating Brentford last night, and said that Spurs were definitely still in a five-horse race.

Kevin De Bruyne says Tottenham can still win Premier League title this season

Whilst De Bruyne named Liverpool and Arsenal his biggest threats, he was hesitant to rule out Aston Villa or Tottenham.

De Bruyne said: “There are so many teams there. Liverpool and Arsenal are there with us, but I’d say even Villa and Tottenham are close.

“We will be fighting with five for the moment. There’s a little pressure anyway to do well, but there’s no point looking at what’s going to happen in two months.

“We need to win games now and try to enjoy it. We know what we need to do. The pressure is always there, but we’re ready to fight again until the end.”

And perhaps this underdog status could work in Spurs’ favour as the season reaches the so called ‘business end’.

De Bruyne’s return at City will of course be a blow to any of their rival’s title hopes, including Tottenham.

The Belgian’s return from injury has coincided with the period of the season in which Pep Guardiola’s side do tend to take over.

Perhaps Postecoglou won’t consider City as direct rivals right now, but he will be hoping to keep pace.

That being said, Tottenham may now have a problem stemming from their back line
