Kevin Campbell thinks Arsenal target Marcus Thuram is bigger and stronger than Nketiah

Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are in need of a new forward after it was confirmed that Gabriel Jesus has undergone surgery. The Brazilian has arguably been their best player this season, but now that he’s set for a long spell on the sidelines, it would be wise to bring in another talented striker.

Gladbach and France star Thuram has been heavily linked, and Campbell has suggested that he’d be an upgrade on Eddie Nketiah.

90min reported last month that Arsenal had sent scouts to watch Thuram in action ahead of a potential move in the January transfer window.

The Frenchman, who was a part of Didier Deschamps’ squad at the World Cup, will enter the final six months of his Borussia Monchengladbach contract in January.

It’s very likely that he will be sold, and clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Manchester United have all been linked with a move to sign him in the winter window.

Campbell thinks he’d be an excellent signing for Arsenal.

He said on The Highbury Squad: “I think he [Thuram] could be a good addition.

“Someone who can play across the front and someone who can give us a bit of physical presence up there because, although Eddie has been working on his physique and looks a bit stronger, [he is] somebody who is bigger, stronger, somebody more physical.

“That will keep defences on their toes, that’s for sure. It will be a fair deal because it will be pretty cheap because he has only got six months left on his contract, so it could be a good deal to be done.”

TBR View:

Thuram really is an interesting option in January for multiple clubs in the Premier League, including Arsenal.

The Frenchman, still only 25, is hugely versatile. He can play anywhere across the front three and as he has shown since the start of this season, he’s prolific in front of goal as well – 13 goals and four assists in just 17 appearances.

BILD reported recently that Gladbach are willing to let Thuram leave for just £10 million. That would be an absolute bargain for all the interested sides, and that figure may come further down towards the end of the transfer window next month.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with Thuram, but he definitely is an option worth considering for Arsenal as a cover for Gabriel Jesus.
