Former Arsenal striker, Kevin Campbell, believes the club’s reported pursuit of Celtic striker, Odsonne Edouard, is one that makes perfect sense.
Edouard has been linked with a move to Arsenal for some time now. However, the Gunners might need to act quickly to land the Celtic ace, with reports this week claiming Leicester were working on a bargain deal.
It was believed last summer that Celtic would command around £40m for their star striker. However, that price has dipped considerably and Campbell, speaking to The Same Old Arsenal podcast, thinks Edouard is a no-brainer signing for the Gunners.
“He’s a good player. He is a very good player. Very good with his back to goal, good ability and good link-up play – and he’s young. At £25 million, it’s nothing,” Campbell commented.
Interestingly, Campbell’s comments on a £25m fee might get even better. The Daily Mail’s report on Leicester’s interest this week suggested Edouard could now go for around £15m.
That fee, of course, would represent a massive bargain for any club buying the Celtic man.
TBR View: Edouard a class act, £15m really is a bargain
Like Campbell says, £25m would have been a bargain for Odsonne Edouard. So the fact he now looks to be on his way for around £10m less than that means he is quite the snip.
Arsenal have to be all over this one really. They can’t be letting the likes of Leicester move ahead of them, especially when they really do need a striker.
Edouard is a class act who scores goals. For £15m, you won’t find many better across the continent at the moment.
