Kevin Campbell says Granit Xhaka was incredible in Arsenal win
Kevin Campbell has told The Highbury Squad that Granit Xhaka was incredible for Arsenal in their weekend win over Brentford, while he described the assist for Gabriel Jesus as the kind of pass strikers very rarely get supplied with during their careers.
Arsenal continue to set the pace in the Premier League this season. The Gunners went into the international break off the back of a 3-0 win at Brentford.
Of course, Ethan Nwaneri is taking many of the headlines. But there were so many impressive performances from the Arsenal squad against the Bees.
And Xhaka was certainly one of the standouts. The Swiss has arguably been playing the best football of his Arsenal career this season. And he produced one moment of amazing quality in Sunday’s victory.
It was Xhaka’s delicious cross that allowed Jesus to double the visitors’ lead. The ball was perfectly dropped between the two centre-backs. And the Brazilian made the most of the opportunity.
Garth Crooks was still extremely critical of Xhaka as he included him in his team of the week. But Campbell insisted that no-one can argue with what Xhaka has done so far this season.
“Granit Xhaka deserves to be in that team of the week. He was incredible. I’ve said it, he is getting better,” he told The Highbury Squad.
“And he’s improving. He’s got more assists, he’s got goals, he’s got assists. That ball for Jesus by the way. Let me just tell you as a striker, you don’t get many of those balls in your career. Very rarely you get quality like that.”
Granit Xhaka was incredible
It is remarkable just how impressive Xhaka has been. In fairness, he has largely been superb ever since impressing for his country at Euro 2020.
There have been times during his career when Xhaka has looked to be long past the point of no-return. But he has fought his way back in some style.
Some may ultimately never feel able to fully trust the 29-year-old out on the pitch. But there is absolutely no question that he has, so far, been one of the revelations of the season.
