Kevin Campbell says Arsenal play better with Alexandre Lacazette starting

Kevin Campbell has claimed he thinks Arsenal look a better side when Alexandre Lacazette starts as their striker.

Lacazette, who has been a popular figure with the Gunners fans since he joined in 2017, is a recognised centre-forward.

The Frenchman has scored 12 goals in 33 games across all competitions so far this season.

But the 29-year-old isn’t always a nailed-on starter.

For instance, he’s started just two of the previous five Premier League games.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has the option to play either Lacazette or captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the central position.

Alternatively, he uses Aubameyang in the left-winger role alongside Lacazette.

Arsenal-supporting pundit Campbell has stated he prefers it when Lacazette is used to spearhead the Gunners attack with his presence in the final third.

“Do we play better with Lacazette as a number nine as appose to Aubameyang? I think we do. I think we do play better as a team with Aubameyang not being the number nine,” Campbell told Highbury Squad.

TBR’s View:

If Arsenal are building their best XI, Aubameyang is going to be involved in the team regardless of some inconsistent form this season.

But it’s a good dilemma for Arteta to have when it comes to some strong attacking options he’s got available to him in the squad.

Lacazette gives the Gunners a real focal point when he starts and is capable of linking up play with his intelligent, plus he’s a neat finisher around the box.

It looks like the manager will continue to rotate depending on the opposition, but it would be interesting to see the line-up if there was a cup final this weekend.
