Kevin Campbell reacts to reports Arsenal now want Christian Pulisic
Kevin Campbell has told The Highbury Squad that Christian Pulisic has not been a difference-maker during his Premier League career amid reports Arsenal want the Chelsea star.
Pulisic could well be on the move during the January transfer window. The Daily Mail reports that the 24-year-old could leave Stamford Bridge heading into the final 18 months of his contract. There are no indications that either party is open to discussing fresh terms.
ESPN reported that Arsenal are amongst the clubs made aware of Pulisic’s availability. Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that the Gunners do indeed want the USMNT international.
Arsenal reportedly want Christian Pulisic
It is fair to say that Pulisic has not had the best time at Chelsea. But he has won the Champions League with the Blues, and enjoyed some bright moments along the way. He is also currently impressing with his country at the World Cup right now.
And with that, Campbell suggested that Pulisic may be a good signing for Arsenal – though he admitted that he would have a point to prove.
“I think he’s a good player,” he told The Highbury Squad. “But you mention all the stuff he’s done, he wasn’t a starter at Chelsea. He was a bit-part player.
“I think he’s a really good player. Don’t get me wrong. But he wasn’t the difference maker at Chelsea in those games. He showed his qualities against England. I know England were poor, but I thought the USA did really well. I thought he showed that he can play at the highest level, that’s for sure.
“And with Mikel Arteta’s coaching, we might be able to get even more out of him.”
It seems likely that many Arsenal fans will agree with Campbell’s assessment of Pulisic. He did go on to claim he had ‘immense’ talent. Ultimately, his stock has fallen considerably since he sealed a move to Chelsea.
The Daily Mail suggests that the Blues would want around £35 million for the attacking midfielder. And based on his form for the club, that would be potentially risky for any of his admirers.
Having said that, he is clearly a talent with world-class potential. So if Arteta can get the best out of him, he could be yet another inspired signing.
