Kevin Campbell lauds Arsenal over summer deal for Gabriel

Kevin Campbell has told Highbury Squad that he thinks that Gabriel Magalhaes could be worth more than double what Arsenal paid for him in the summer.

Gabriel has made an outstanding start to life at the Emirates. Despite his £27 million fee (via Sky Sports), Arsenal fans would have been forgiven for expecting Mikel Arteta to take a cautious approach with introducing the centre-back.

However, Gabriel has started six of Arsenal’s seven Premier League games so far. And he has been a revelation at the heart of the Gunners’ defence.

He arguably saved his best display yet for Sunday’s win at Manchester United. As shown by Whoscored.com, he made 45 successful passes and five successful tackles. No player won more challenges than the youngster.

And Campbell has suggested that Gabriel has made a better start to life in North London than he could have ever imagined.

“Gabriel, I mean, whoever is on this recruitment. Arteta and Edu and whoever else, they’ve picked an absolute gem,” he told Highbury Squad.

“He is an absolute gem at twenty-odd million pounds. I’m sure if you put him on the market now you’d have to pay fifty up.

“But we’re not selling him. He’s too good. He was awesome, physical, strong, quick, gets stuck in and puts his head in where it hurts, and he’s a bully, I love that he’s bullying the strikers, he’s letting them know. Gabriel was awesome.”

Gabriel’s form has made such a difference to Arsenal’s fortunes at the back. In fact, Arteta’s men boast the best defensive record in the division so far.

And the exciting thing is he should only get better. He only turns 23 in December. And with a number of really talented youngsters coming through in other positions, there looks to be an extremely bright future ahead for the Gunners.
