Kevin Campbell has named La Liga star he would want at Arsenal

Kevin Campbell has admitted he would replace Arsenal’s goalkeeper Bernd Leno if the opportunity came about to sign Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.

Leno, who has been with the Gunners since 2018, is the first-choice goalkeeper at the Emirates Stadium.

The 29-year-old German is someone that has come under the spotlight recently for a few individuals errors, but the majority of his career at the Emirates Stadium he’s been extremely consistent.

Arsenal-supporting pundit Campbell has claimed though that he would take up the option to sign an elite shot-stopper.

“If you get a top goalkeeper spent the money, if you can’t stick with Leno. I think Leno is a good keeper, but I don’t think he is a top, top level keeper,” Campbell told Highbury Squad.

“Oblak for me is the best, best goalkeeper in the world, he is the best, and if you have got the best goalkeeper in your goal, you have got the chance.”

TBR’s View:

It’s hardly groundbreaking to hear someone say they’d swap their own goalkeeper for Oblak, who has been renowned as one of the world’s best in-between the sticks for several years now.

But it does go to show the uncertainty around Arsenal’s number one that the discussion started.

Arsenal’s decision to sell Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa in the summer has meant that Leno’s performances have been magnified, as there were plenty who felt the former deserved to stay at the club as the number one.

The goalkeeper position isn’t one that manager Mikel Arteta needs to prioritise though when it comes to improving in the next transfer window, as Leno is just having a small blip, but the player’s form is worth watching out for.
