Kevin Campbell has claimed that he loves the attitude of Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, who popped up with a critical moment in last night’s win against Benfica.
The Gunners have set up a Europa League Round of 32 tie against Olympiacos after beating Benfica 4-3 on aggregate over two legs.
But Mikel Arteta’s side were on the brink of exiting the competition, needing two goals in the final half an hour of Thursday’s game at home to Benfica.
Arsenal left-back Tierney scored one with a powerful left-footed finish, before captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted an 87th minute header.
Campbell singled out Tierney for huge praise after his individual display.
The £25million star (Sky Sports) is an attack-minded full-back that scored his second goal of the season when his team needed it most against Benfica, but it’s the way he wears his heart on his sleeve that fans admirer about him.
“He’s our defensive dynamo. He’s not perfect, there are times when he doesn’t get the cross right, there are times where he doesn’t get the pass right, but one thing we love is his attitude,” Campbell told Highbury Squad.
“His attitude is absolutely first class. He keeps us going down the left-hand side. Kieran Tierney I’d give a 9/10. I’m not saying he was perfect, but just for sheer spirit, endeavour and such a fantastic finish I’m giving him a nine.”
Tierney, 23, only helped to consolidate his position as a fan favourite in midweek.
The Scottish left-back has shown he can be a threat going forward and he’ll start to get more universal credit if he can just boost his numbers slightly with a bit more consistency.
Meanwhile, he’s often one of the more reliable defenders with his back to goal and is one of the nailed-on starters when fit.
He looks a future Arsenal captain in the making that plays with immense passion, which is why supporters are so excited to watch him develop with them.
