Kevin Campbell asked who Arsenal need more out of Partey and Aouar

Arsenal fans continue to watch on as their club reportedly chase both Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey.

Mikel Arteta is said to want at least one of the midfielders in before the end of the transfer window, and fans have been clamouring over the pair for weeks on social media.

That is understandable, given the quality of the French and Ghanaian stars.

Arsenal have done some decent business so far, but can turn their window from a good one to a great one if they can get one in.

To get both would be absolutely game-changing, but that is surely unlikely.

Signing just one would definitely make a big difference to Arsenal, but who is it they should be prioritising?

That question was put to former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell, and his answer was clear.

“Partey all day long,” he told the Chronicles of a Gooner podcast, as quoted by the Metro.

“If we secure that midfield defensively and the screen in front of the back four I think we win a lot more games than we lose.

“But if you add Houssem Aouar, who’s a very good technically gifted player, we still have a problem in the middle of the pitch defensively.”

At the moment there is more noise about Aouar than Partey, but the unpredictable nature of the transfer market means a potential move to the Emirates for Atletico Madrid maestro shouldn’t be dismissed.

TBR’s View – Campbell is right

If it’s a question of one of the other, Partey is the man Arsenal should be trying to land as Campbell says.

That holding midfield position at Arsenal has been an issue for years, but Partey would bring both steel and technical quality.

Patrick Vieira probably won’t ever be replaced, but Partey could definitely be something a little bit like the legendary Frenchman.
