Kevin Cambell raises fears over Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Arsenal legend Kevin Campbell has told Arsenal Fan TV on YouTube that he fears Ainsley Maitland-Niles might not be good enough to make the grade at the Emirates Stadium.

Campbell came through the youth ranks at Arsenal and he thinks if he doesn’t cut the mustard soon then he should be allowed to leave the club.

Maitland-Niles has started 14 Premier League games this season but hasn’t featured in any of the last five league games.

Campbell is concerned that the versatile performer might never be good enough to make the grade at the football club.

He told Arsenal Fan TV’s YouTube channel: “There’s a new manager in town and now Maitland-Niles is going to really realise what it’s like to play for Arsenal.

“Arteta already knows what he’s going to get from Ozil, from Lacazette, from Sokratis, from David Luiz and all the experienced guys because he’s coached against them at Manchester City.

“He knows what they are, he knows they’re not stupid. But what’s he going to get from these talented youngsters, do they have the right attitude for Arsenal?

“If they don’t, they’ve got to go. It’s so important he gets ruthless with everyone because we could be waiting on a Maitland-Niles to cross that gap and it never happens.”

“You’ll always feel a bit sorry, say he never got the chance, but it’s nonsense now, it’s his fourth manager and the jury’s still out so something’s got to give.”

Arteta has stated that the youngster needs to work hard in order to get into his team.

Future

Having come through the academy ranks he has made 91 appearances for the club but under Arteta, he has slipped down the pecking order.

It would seem as though the Spaniard is running out of patience with the player and he could depart in the summer.

Calciomercato has previously stated interest from both Milan clubs and cashing in might not be a bad idea.

Maitland Niles has typically played right-back but Hector Bellerin will probably be fit next season.

Arteta will want to add some more players in the summer and offloading others seems a necessity too.

On £35,000-a-week, he is hardly breaking the bank but freeing those wages up would be ideal to fund some new recruits.
