Kenny Miller comments on Lyndon Dykes, amid Rangers reports

Kenny Miller has told BBC Sportsound that he expects a replacement to come in before Saturday’s opener against Aberdeen if Alfredo Morelos is sold – and commented on reported interest in Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes.

BBC Sport reported earlier this week that while there have been talks between Rangers and Lille over the potential sale of 24-year-old striker Morelos, there has been no official bid from the Ligue 1 outfit.

However, it is becoming widely expected that the Colombia international will leave Ibrox and Rangers will cash in. When that happens, though, is becoming more and more important – with the season starting in five days.

Rangers legend Miller has stated that if Rangers do opt to sell Morelos then they must have a ready-made replacement to bring in before Saturday – and commented on Livi powerhouse Dykes, who scored 12 goals last term.

“I would imagine that there must be a replacement ready to come in and lead that line on Saturday or I would definitely hope so,” Miller said, when asked if Morelos was to leave before Saturday’s first outing at Pittodrie.

“Dykes had a fantastic season at Livingston. His goal record is not quite matching up as yet with Alfredo’s, but he would maybe be a good second option [at Ibrox].”

TBR’s view – Is Dykes good enough to replace Morelos?

No, Miller is right. Livi’s number nine Dykes is the kind of striker that can be used if the initial plan A is not working. A powerhouse, his aerial ability and bulldozer-like strength can topple even the best defences – just ask Celtic.

But is he good enough to replace Morelos as a starter and the leading, attacking spearhead in a Light Blue shirt? Probably not. Rangers need a replacement for Morelos – the likes of Josh Maja or Kemar Roofe, for example.
