Kenny Dalglish predicts who will replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Kenny Dalglish has claimed in his Sunday Post column that Jurgen Klopp will want to leave Liverpool eventually, and believes Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is the only man that can replace the German at Anfield.

Klopp has a contract at Liverpool until the summer of 2022 but shows no signs of slowing down as the former Borussia Dortmund boss looks to finally end Liverpool’s wait for a Premier League title.

Gerrard, meanwhile, is impressing as manager of one of Europe’s biggest clubs in Glasgow Rangers. The 39-year-old has closed the gap between Rangers and Celtic – which stands at one point right now – and two successive Europa League group stages.

Liverpool legend Dalglish believes Klopp is going nowhere for a while, but when he does finally leave Anfield, former Reds boss Dalglish believes Gerrard is the obvious contender to take over at his former side.

“The time will come when he decides it’s time to take a break, and nobody would be critical of him for doing so,” Dalglish said. “At some stage, everybody needs a rest, a time to draw breath and take stock.

“When that scenario unfolds, Steven Gerrard, I’m quite certain, will come into the thoughts of everyone at Liverpool. He knows the club inside out and is proving himself to be a very capable young manager at Rangers.”

TBR’s view – Will Gerrard be ready, by remaining at Rangers?

The Liverpool job is an enormous role. It needs a manager that has experience. Being Gerrard and a Liverpool legend simply is not enough, the Reds skipper needs experience at a club with enormous support and pressure.

Rangers, then, is perfect. The Gers fans are expectant this season that they can finally topple Celtic and end the Hoops’ run of eight consecutive Scottish Premiership titles. The aim for Gerrard, though, is to stop 10 in a row.

By doing that, he will show that he can cope with pressure and improve a team, not only in the transfer market, but on the training ground too. Rangers is the perfect apprenticeship for Gerrard before Liverpool.
