Kemar Roofe signs for Leeds from Oxford – Twitter reacts

Garry Monk has clearly got plans for Leeds United as they attempt to return to the big time under yet another manager. Whilst the turmoil has been continuous since the Cellino’s arrival, optimism seems to be returning to Elland Road after the arrival of young and exciting manager Garry Monk, who has since brought in youngster Matt Grimes from his former club Swansea and experienced keeper Rob Green.

Perhaps the most exciting arrival of all though, is that of last season’s Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Year – Kemar Roofe. Whilst the fee has been undisclosed, the Oxfordshire Guardian claims that it is around £3 million which persuaded Oxford to let go of their prized asset, who has signed a 4-year deal in Yorkshire.

The 23-year-old left winger, who can also play up front or on the right, scored 26 goals in 49 games last season, including two as his Oxford side knocked Gary Monk’s Premier League Swansea City out of the FA Cup in the Third Round.

Oxford will undoubtedly be sad to see their quick and skilful winger go, but that pain will be softened by a major income to help them rebuild their squad as they face the challenge of League One. There is also a benefit for Roofe’s former side, West Brom, who the Oxfordshire Guardian claim have a 40% sell-on clause, equating to roughly £1.2 million.

Roofe himself is excited by the move, telling the club website “it’s an amazing feeling… You can tell there’s something exciting happening here with the signings we’re making.”
