It was a similar story for Leeds United on Sunday afternoon as Marcelo Bielsa’s side dominated proceedings from start to finish but suffered a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City in Wales – and Kemar Roofe has defended Patrick Bamford.
Bamford is a constant source of criticism for Leeds fans and Sunday was no different, as the striker struggled to provide the difference up front. Numerous missed chances inevitably saw supporters complain.
What is likely to have infuriated the Leeds fanbase most was Bamford inadvertently getting in the way of Jack Harrison’s shot, which was going in. Unable to get out of the way, Bamford stopped the ball on the line.
Roofe, who was a crucial part of last season’s climb to the play-off semi-finals before his move to Anderlecht, commented on Mateusz Klich’s Instagram post – telling the Polish midfielder: “You lads have got this”.
Leeds missed an excellent opportunity to take advantage of Fulham’s defeat to Brentford, and West Brom failing to beat Birmingham City at the Hawthorns on Saturday. They sit in second on goal difference, still seven ahead of third.
Roofe was asked by a Leeds supporter as to why Bamford continues to start up front for Leeds with Jean-Kevin Augustin currently doing individual training – but is yet to have his loan extended beyond June 30.
Roofe responded, defending his former teammate – predicting that 26-year-old Bamford will score the goal to get Leeds promoted.
