Kemar Roofe comments on reported Rangers interest

Kemar Roofe has been quoted by the Daily Record as saying that he is focused on staying with Belgian giants Anderlecht and that he is unsure on whether Rangers have made an offer for him – though he did not close the door on a potential Ibrox move.

Roofe, 27, linked up with Vincent Kompany, Samir Nasri and Nacer Chadli last summer when Anderlecht opted to spend £4.5million (Record) to lure the Birmingham-born striker to Belgium from Leeds United.

The former West Brom star had scored 33 goals and created 14 more in 122 games for Leeds – stats which are far more impressive considering he played out wide and in midfield more so than he did up front.

Just 16 games at Anderlecht have come his way this season with injury, though he has scored seven goals and created three more in terms of assists. Roofe responded when asked about Rangers, claiming he is unsure if an offer has been made.

“I will stay at Anderlecht until someone tells me otherwise,” Roofe said. “I don’t know whether Rangers made an offer for me. I’m happy here. My head is 100 per cent with Anderlecht. As for Glasgow, I don’t think I’ve ever set foot in Scotland in my life.”

TBR’s view – Roofe would be a stunning Rangers signing

But the chances of Rangers actually signing a player like Roofe would completely depend on the future of Alfredo Morelos. If the Colombian remains, there is little chance that Steven Gerrard would sign Roofe.

Roofe has shown he can score and create regularly at Championship level, and was certainly deemed Premier League quality before he moved to Anderlecht – where, despite injury, he has scored on a regular basis.

Likely to be cheaper than the sale of Morelos, he would be a top replacement. But signing Roofe depends on Morelos.
