Keith Andrews and Jermaine Beckford react to Leeds's penalty claim

Both Keith Andrews and Jermaine Beckford suggested at half-time during Sky Sports’ live coverage of Leeds United’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday (broadcast on 26/10; 13:25) that they do not believe that the Whites should have had a penalty during the first-half at Hillsborough.

White got round the Wednesday striker and headed along the byline. However, Nuhiu managed to get back at the Leeds centre-back. But White appeared to be pulled back, and then he was clipped as the striker got to the ball.

The referee decided not to give anything. And at half-time, Andrews suggested that he felt that the official made the right call, but added that he would have struggled to criticise the decision had a penalty been given.

“It’s Nuhiu in a nutshell, isn’t it? Clumsy. You don’t want him anywhere near here defending,” he told Sky Sports.

“He tries to get around, there’s contact. Look at the Leeds players though, no-one appealing. That says a lot about it. And I think it was one of those that if it had have got given, we couldn’t sit here and say that’s absolutely not a penalty. I don’t think it’s enough for me.”

Interestingly, Beckford seemed to agree with Andrews. And the former Whites striker appeared to question some of the Leeds players for not making more of the incident.

“There’s contact. Is it enough? I don’t think it’s enough. But as a forward and as a Leeds player, I’m surprised I didn’t see anyone screaming out for a penalty there if I’m honest,” Beckford said.

It would be no surprise if many of the Leeds fans disagreed with Andrews and Beckford. As Andrews notes, it is an incredibly clumsy attempt to win the ball from Nuhiu.

And the striker could have surely had few complaints had the referee decided that Leeds deserved a penalty.
