‘Keep an eye on’… Journalist suggests 44-year-old manager could replace David Moyes at West Ham

David Moyes’ job has been under constant scrutiny over the past two years.

Despite working wonders with West Ham and winning a European trophy, there’s still a subset of the fanbase and the media who want Moyes removed from his post at the London Stadium.

After a 5-1 loss to Liverpool this week, the rumours of a potential Moyes departure have started up again, and speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Alex Crook has tipped up a potential replacement.

Indeed, the journalist says that Steve Cooper is one to keep an eye on as speculation about Moyes’ future continues to grow.

Keep an eye on Cooper

Crook shared what he knows about the former Nottingham Forest manager.

“He’s a project manager and it’s difficult to make Forest a project club. As I say, Forest fans are mourning Steve Cooper. He will walk into another job, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was Crystal Palace, keep an eye on West Ham as well based on what we’ve been saying about David Moyes and his long-term job prospects,” Crook said.

Downgrade

Perhaps we’re viewing this too simply, but we can’t get our heads around why West Ham would ever want to replace Moyes with Cooper.

Cooper has just shown at Forest that he’s not necessarily a top manager at this level, he doesn’t play great football and he’s not the fanciest name.

Meanwhile, Moyes has proven for over two decades that he knows what he’s doing at this level, he’s just won West Ham their first major trophy in goodness knows how long, and he’s consistently done a good job.

Yes, Moyes’ football can be frustratingly boring sometimes, but was anyone complaining in Prague after the Conference League Final last year?

In our view, Moyes remains the best option for West Ham.
