Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is hoping to join Newcastle United this month to boost his Euro 2024 hopes with England.
Phillips has struggled to make any sort of impact at City ever since he was signed for around £42m from Leeds. The England man is well down the pecking order and he is effectively free to leave this month.
A number of clubs are thought to be keen on signing Phillips. Juventus had looked before dropping out of the race, while Newcastle, Tottenham and Liverpool have all expressed an interest.
However, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, it is Newcastle who are now in talks with City over a loan deal, with Phillips keen to make the move happen.

Kalvin Phillips wants to sign for Newcastle
Taking to social media just now, Galetti has posted to give his latest information on Phillips’ future.
And in the post, he claims that talks are ongoing between Newcastle and City, while Phillips is ‘keen’ to make the move due to Euro 2024 being around the corner.
Phillips has to start playing football
While Kalvin Phillips is right to have an eye on the England squad, he simply needs to start playing games again so he doesn’t risk going stale.
After doing so well with Leeds and earning his move to City, Phillips has not really had a chance to impress and he’s now in danger of just drifting along in his career.
He won’t want to do that, despite the good parts of being at club like City, and he’ll be desperate to get back to playing regular football.
Newcastle is a smart move for him as well. Right now, there is basically a place in the XI for him and it’s a great chance for Phillips to get back into the groove.
Eddie Howe is pushing hard to get new players in as well. Phillips, then, should be pushing from the other way to make sure it all meets in the middle.
