Karl Robinson tips Tottenham star Dele Alli to get better

Karl Robinson has claimed that Tottenham’s Dele Alli will only get better and any obstacles he’s had to face will make him improve.

Robinson is currently manager at English League One club Oxford United, but he previously worked together with Alli at MK Dons when he was making his way into senior football.

Spurs signed the attacking midfielder for £5million (BBC) and he scored 16 goals for MK Dons during his final season with them in the 2014/15 campaign under Robinson at the time.

He made a seamless jump up from League One to the Premier League and has gone on to catapult himself as one of the best youngsters across Europe in recent years.

But the 23-year-old hasn’t had it all his own way in recent times following a drop off of club form and hasn’t been included in a Gareth Southgate England squad since the Nations League last June.

Robinson is adamant though that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Alli and that he will get better.

“He’s just a tremendous young man. One that has still not reached his potential yet. There is more to come, there is a lot more to come his age tells you that,” Robinson said, as quoted by Sky Sports’ Premier League Twitter account.

“The experiences that he’s gone through over the last year maybe will equally make him a better player. Fundamentally, in the short-term might be difficult, but when you know him as a person you know he will relish whatever will be put in front of him.”

TBR’s View:

There are signs that Alli has started to get back to his best, but there is still more that he can do as a special talent on his day.

He has nine goals in 35 games across all competitions so far this campaign and has had to deal with the change of manager from Mauricio Pochettino to Jose Mourinho, which was a shock to many involved with the North London club.

It’s been a turbulent season as a whole so far for Spurs disrupted by injuries, manager changes and now the break due to coronavirus, but hopefully Alli can get back to his peak next season.
