Leeds United have identified Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow as a top January target, The Sun is reporting.

Darlow has struggled for game time at Newcastle and could be set for a January exit.

And promotion chasing pair Leeds and Aston Villa are lining up £4m moves for the 28-year-old in the new year.

Darlow would be the perfect signing for Leeds and he could just be their ticket to the Premier League.

Goalkeeper is an area which needs strengthening in January after loan stopper Jamal Blackman suffered a broken leg to rule him out for the rest of the season.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell continues between the sticks and while he is a promising young goalkeeper, he has proven to be error-prone in several matches this season.

With Martin Dubravka excelling at Newcastle and Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman waiting in reserve, Darlow should be pushing for a January move.

The ex-Nottingham Forest man has played nearly 200 games in his career with most coming at Championship level so he would be a shrewd acquisition for the Whites.

He helped Newcastle to win promotion from the Championship in 2016/17, playing 34 league games, so his experience could prove invaluable in Leeds’ quest to return to the top flight.
