Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow has admitted that Tottenham star Hugo Lloris is one of the goalkeepers he likes to watch to pick up tips from, naming him one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.

Darlow, who earns £25,000-a-week (Spotrac), has been the first-choice option at Premier League club Newcastle so far this season due to injuries and he’s seized his opportunity well with some eye-catching performances at St James’ Park.

The Englishman has mentioned Spurs’ captain alongside Manchester City’s Ederson as two individuals he watches.

Spurs skipper Lloris is a World Cup winner with France that has played on the elite stage for so many years now and he’s made a remarkable 335 appearances for the North London club.

The 33-year-old is a left-footed goalkeeper that is comfortable playing out from the back, but Darlow has pointed towards his brilliant reflexes and some of the saves he can make as a real quality in his game.

“I watch the others on the TV and see what bits and pieces I can pick up,” Darlow told the Daily Mail.

“The way Ederson came in with his feet and almost changed the game with his passing, and the way he comes for crosses and punches — that was something I felt I could add to my game.

“Shot-stopping wise, you look at (Tottenham’s) Hugo Lloris. These guys are the best in the world.”

It feels like Spurs fans may take Lloris for granted at times, as he’s been such a loyal servant to the club since he joined from Lyon back in 2012 and on his day he’s a world-class talent.

The Frenchman may no longer be at the peak of his powers, but he’s still capable of incredible individual moments and for now it looks like manager Jose Mourinho still has total faith in him.

It’s going to be a huge task further down the line for Spurs to try find a long-term replacement for Lloris and perhaps he’ll be appreciated more when he eventually leaves.
