Karen Carney suggests Folarin Balogun could be the next William Saliba at Arsenal

Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun could be the next William Saliba when he returns from his loan spell at Stade Reims.

That’s according to Sky pundit Karen Carney, who was speaking on The Kelly & Wrights Show.

The project at The Emirates is one of the most exciting in the Premier League right now.

Not only are Mikel Arteta’s side top of the league, but they’re doing it with a young squad playing very attractive football.

Arteta has built a togetherness at Arsenal that hasn’t been seen for some time.

He’s benefitted from the club’s patience over the past few years, allowing him to revolutionise the squad.

The likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been allowed to develop within the first team and are now flourishing.

However, William Saliba’s journey at Arsenal is arguably the best example of that patience paying off.

After three loan spells away from the club since signing from St. Etienne, Saliba has finally established himself as a key player at Arsenal.

Balogun will now be hoping he’s the next Saliba, after following in his footsteps and heading to Ligue 1.

Balogun could be the next Saliba – Carney

Speaking on The Kelly & Wrighty Show about Saliba, Carney brought up the young forward: “I wonder if they’re doing the same with Balogun as well, he’s gone out on loan.

“We’re looking for this potential another addition to come in.

“We had him, saw him, sent him out on loan, similar to Saliba and he’s a talent, I really like him.

“So, if he goes and then comes back, it’s like another new signing that fits into the culture and the mould again.”

Balogun is having a brilliant campaign in France, and is currently his team’s top goal scorer.

Stade Reims manager Will Still has called Balogun a ‘real talent’, and it’s easy to see why.

The 21-year-old has adapted to life outside England brilliantly.

He’s likely to have given Arteta a tough decision about what to do with him next season.

There was even a suggestion that he could be recalled in January as cover after Gabriel Jesus’ injury.

However, Balogun will benefit a lot more from playing in France than sitting on the bench at The Emirates.

Arsenal will hope that Balogun becomes the next Saliba, and he’s really benefitted from his latest loan spell.

All eyes will be on his return in the summer and the next step in his career.
