Karamoko Dembele and Albian Ajeti react as player bids farwell to Celtic
Mo Elyounoussi has thanked Celtic fans in a touching post on Instagram after two years on loan at Parkhead. The Norwegian winger leaves Celtic and returns to parent club Southampton. Karamoko Dembele, Albian Ajeti and Greg Taylor were among those to react to the ex-Basel star’s departure.
Elyounoussi, 26, clocked up 67 appearances for Celtic during his two years on loan. In his first season, he only played 22 times with injury hampering his progress – having a hand in 15 goals. While Celtic struggled and eventually lost the title to Rangers in his second year, his form improved.
Last season, he clocked up 17 goals and eight assists in 45 games for Celtic. However, a permanent deal was always unlikely given Southampton paid a fee in the region of £16million to sign Elyounoussi. He returns to Southampton and the winger has posted a heartfelt message on Instagram.
What have Dembele and Ajeti said, as Elyounoussi leaves Celtic?
While his exit was expected, losing Elyounoussi is a blow to Celtic. He is one of the club’s best players and waving goodbye to the Norwegian means Ange Postecoglou needs to spring into action and get to work in the window. Elyounoussi certainly needs replacing this summer.
Even if Elyounoussi had stayed, Celtic need wingers. Right now, Dembele, Mikey Johnston and James Forrest remain the only options.Postecoglou is likely to be busy in the window this summer. Celtic stars Dembele, Ajeti, Taylor and others responded to the post on Instagram from Elyounoussi.
