Harry Kane has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 19/12; 18:38) what Andy Robertson apparently said to him after the Tottenham Hotspur talisman was booked for a challenge on the Liverpool left-back during the first-half.

Spurs and Liverpool played out a remarkable 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. As well as the four goals, there were a number of other incidents that contributed to an incredible contest.

The home side definitely had the chances to win. Meanwhile, Liverpool had a very good penalty shout turned down before the break. They also saw Robertson sent off for a rash challenge on Emerson Royal towards the end.

It was a poor decision from the Scotland international. But the Reds probably felt particularly aggrieved after seeing Kane stay on the pitch during the first-half.

The striker was shown a yellow card after lunging in on Robertson. It did appear that he did not get any of the ball, and his studs were facing up at the defender. But no further action was taken after a quick check.

You could certainly understand why Liverpool fans would be furious about the decision. But interestingly, Kane suggested that Robertson had little problem with the Tottenham striker staying on the pitch.

“I haven’t seen it back, but on the pitch, it didn’t feel like it,” he told Sky Sports, when asked about whether the incident should have seen him sent off.

“Even Andy on the pitch said: ‘he just caught my foot, and I didn’t think it was a foul’. Obviously I think sometimes when you slow stuff down in football, it makes it look maybe worse than what it is. But that’s what VAR’s there for.”

Tottenham vs Liverpool: Harry Kane fortunate to stay on for challenge on Robertson

It is a surprise to hear that Robertson was apparently fine with the challenge. He stayed down for a little while after. And it could have easily ended up proving a lot more serious.

It would have taken the shine off an important day for Kane. He has ended his wait for a second Premier League goal this season. And he looked a lot more like his old self, even if he squandered a couple of golden chances after the break.
