Harry Kane has told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports (broadcast on 7/3; 22:04) that Jordan Pickford said to him that he was offside following the Tottenham Hotspur striker’s first goal in their win over Everton.

Spurs got back to winning ways in superb fashion on Monday. They thrashed the Toffees 5-0. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, Kane was the star of the show in the stunning victory.

It was Michael Keane who had broken the deadlock. And Son Heung-min appeared to put the contest beyond doubt inside 17 minutes.

Kane initially got in on the act after 37 minutes. An outrageous through ball from Matt Doherty left Kane one on one with Pickford, and the Tottenham talisman made no mistake.

Everton were seemingly hoping that VAR would come to their rescue and show that Kane was offside. It looked an incredibly tight call.

However, Pickford was seemingly extremely confident that the goal would be ruled out as Kane shared what the goalkeeper told him as he returned from celebrating.

“Great ball from Doherty there. And obviously, one on one with the keeper. And I always back myself,” he told Monday Night Football.

“As I was coming back, Pickers was saying ‘you’re offside’ and he was ready to take the free-kick. I’m not sure if he was trying to worm his way in there.”

Kane threatening to drag Tottenham into top-four in absolutely crucial season

In fairness to Tottenham, so many of their players were brilliant. Doherty produced arguably his best performance yet in the win. And Dejan Kulusevski was unreal at times during the victory. And several others stepped up.

Tottenham are now only three points off Arsenal in fourth. They have played a game more. But there is still one North London derby left this season.

Kane is certainly doing his best to drag Tottenham right into contention. He has been absolutely outstanding for several months now. And he is scoring on a regular basis now.

Tottenham finishing in the top-four could be crucial to keeping Kane beyond this season. On this form, he may well get Spurs across the line come the end of the campaign.
