It has long been a subject of debate whether Harry Kane can be the man to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record.
He is already well on course to become England’s record scorer and could set that at a total which is very difficult to beat indeed.
And in an interview on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel, Kane was asked whether he would rather get that achievement or win the Ballon d’Or.

“Good question,” he said. “I think I’d rather win the Ballon d’Or.
“To be recognised as the best player in the world at that moment in time would be incredible.
“To be number one in anything would be a dream so that would be a real achievement. I wouldn’t mind breaking Shearer’s record either!
“Both would be great achievements but maybe I would rather go for the Ballon d’Or, although I might need to think about it a bit more!”

Both achievements would be huge and both still require some significant work for Kane, even though he is in sensational form at the moment.
The likes of Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski lie in wait even if the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominating the best player in the world prize are over.
Kane can break Shearer’s record, and he would have a huge chance if he was a Manchester City player in the years ahead, but even staying at Tottenham and staying fit, he’s got a great opportunity.
Those things will motivate someone as driven as Kane, as well as the pursuit of the team honours which have eluded him so far in his career.
