Kane praises Romero work-rate following first Tottenham goal

Harry Kane has told Tottenham Hotspur’s Twitter account that Cristian Romero deserved his goal in the win over Brighton, insisting that the centre-back has been working incredibly hard.

Spurs broke the deadlock during the first-half at the Amex Stadium. Initially, it appeared that Dejan Kulusevski would be given the credit as his shot was deflected in.

However, replays showed that Romero had been the player to get the crucial touch on its way towards goal. And the defender’s deflection sent the ball past Robert Sanchez, who had already been lucky not to concede from Kane earlier in the half.

Romero clearly had no intention of getting a touch on the ball. And he almost sheepishly went to claim it as the Tottenham players celebrated.

But Kane insisted that he can be happy with opening his account for the club. He suggested that he had earned that slice of good fortune with the work he has been putting in.

“A goal is a goal, I know that better than anyone. He’s been playing and working really hard,” he told Tottenham’s official Twitter account.

Good night for Paratici as Romero is amongst those involved in Tottenham goals

It was Kane who scored the second goal after the break to seal the three points for Spurs. And that could be an important win with Arsenal losing to Liverpool on the same night.

So the win would have certainly been satisfying. But perhaps few would have taken greater satisfaction from the result than Tottenham director Fabio Paratici.

The opener involved Kulusevski and Romero, while the second Tottenham goal was set up by Rodrigo Bentancur. All three of those players were brought to the club by Paratici, thanks to his knowledge of Serie A and contacts with Juventus.

Romero has not been perfect defensively for Tottenham in recent weeks. But there is no question that he looks to have the potential to be an unbelievable signing.

His goal on Wednesday may not make his highlights reel at the end of his Spurs spell. But Kane clearly thinks he earned that slice of luck.
